Our History
It’s been an exciting road to get where we are today, and we are delighted each and every day when we walk through the doors of our studio. Our studio started in Seattle in 1938 by RW and Maxine Helder and moved to Marysville in 1947. In the late 1960's, their son Jan Helder became part of the business and later became sole owner. Jan's daughter, Vanessa Helder joined the family business in 1983. In 1980 we moved to our current location, which is a beautiful historic Julia Morgan home, built in 1918. It has charm and character that is impossible to duplicate in buildings of today.
The Helder’s Photography is a full-service portrait photography studio located in the heart of Marysville, Ca. The Helder’s offers many genres of portrait photography. We have many unique and beautiful areas at and around the studio in which to photograph and we also enjoy creating photographs on locations. Whether it is our client’s home or another location that has special meaning to them, we like to create portraits that are as extraordinary as the individuals in them.
We just celebrated our 72nd year in Marysville, CA. However we’ve decided to remain 39, which is old enough to stop chasing trends, but young enough to keep things fresh.
After 3 generations, our style remains uncontrived and timeless. We insist on taking the extra time to create soft, warm, dimensional lighting. Maybe that’s why people often confuse our portraits with paintings. Thousands of families have trusted us to make portraits that will not go out of style, portraits that will still look beautiful after let’s say… 39 years. Today, The Helders Photography is still family owned.
